The Comprehensive Programme for the Prevention, Diagnostics and Treatment of Cancers and Respiratory System Diseases for Residents of the City and County of Płock was initiated by PKN ORLEN and is run by the National Institute of Oncology, in partnership with the National Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Research Institute and under the auspices of the Ministry of Health.

Implement the Comprehensive Programme for the Prevention, Diagnostics and Treatment of Cancers and Respiratory System Diseases for Residents of the City and County of Płock ‘Health for Płock’ grant programme Society and Employees The ‘Health for Płock’ grant programme is addressed to non-governmental and local government organisations active in Płock and the neighbouring Counties of Płock, Sierpc and Gostynin. The grants are offered to finance pro-health initiatives. The programme’s budget amounted to PLN 300,000; grants were awarded to 28 projects.

Undertake and support initiatives to promote healthy and active lifestyles CSR brochure entitled ‘Health as a Common Value’ Society, Employees, Customers and Business Partners The brochure is one in a series of CSR publications promoting the activities of PKN ORLEN and the ORLEN Foundation. Designed for adults and children, it includes a magnetic tic-tac-toe game and an insert with information about PKN ORLEN’s involvement in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic. It was printed on recycled paper. The publication reached two thousand people, mainly representatives of the local communities of Płock and Gdańsk.

Take various measures to prevent the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic Support in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic Society PKN ORLEN and the ORLEN Foundation supported a few dozen medical facilities across Poland that deal with diagnosing and treating people infected with he coronavirus. The funds were used to expand laboratory facilities and to purchase ambulances, medical equipment and personal protective equipment. Donations were also received by uniformed services and charges of nursing homes. Over PLN 115 million was spent on this purpose.

SAFETY Undertake and support initiatives for safety, including road safety Social campaign promoting safe cycling in Płock Society and Employees The public education campaign entitled ‘The Bicycle Code’, designed to foster the rules of safe cycling, was addressed to the youth from Płock. It included a school competition with prizes awarded for slogans promoting safe cycling. The Municipal Police Headquarters and the Provincial Road Traffic Centre were the project partners. 200 competition entries were submitted. The competition site had more than 14,000 visitors.

Undertake and support initiatives for safety, including road safety Publication entitled ‘Staying Safe Together’ Society, Employees, Customers and Business Partners The brochure is one in a series of CSR publications promoting the social involvement of PKN ORLEN and the ORLEN Foundation. It presents activities promoting and supporting security within the company and in its immediate environment. It is accompanied by first aid instructions and a high-visibility sticker, as well as an attached memory game for children. Seven thousand copies of the publication were distributed.

Society and Customers As part of the second edition of the #GoodDriver (#DobryKierowca) public awareness campaign, road safety rules were explained in simple terms by the campaign’s ambassador, Robert Kubica.

Support professional and voluntary rescue service staff and their families ‘ORLEN for Firefighters’ grant programme” Society In 2020, the Foundation allocated nearly PLN 3 million to support voluntary and professional fire brigades by co-financing purchases of fire-fighting equipment. Grants were awarded to 185 fire brigades.

ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Develop environmental conscience through such initiatives as undertaking and supporting educational projects for the protection of the natural environment, including biodiversity Eco-Zone at the ‘Health for Płock’ picnic Society and Environment At the end of the summer holidays, a family picnic ‘Health for Płock’ was organised for the inhabitants of Płock and its surroundings areas, featuring a special eco-zone, which included stands of beekeepers and a falconer, as well a large-size board game and a jigsaw puzzle, which were very popular with children. The event was attended by over 1,000 residents of Płock.

Develop environmental conscience through such initiatives as undertaking and supporting educational projects for the protection of the natural environment, including biodiversity Cooperation with the Warsaw Province Agricultural Advisory Centre (MODR) in Płock Society and Environment PKN ORLEN continued cooperation with the Płock MODR centre on maintaining an apiary with almost one million bees near the PKN ORLEN plant. At the beekeepers’ request, the Company’s other premises were also made available to put up around a dozen hives near the refinery. The Company also joined in a project to rebuild the population of the Kampinos Forest bee, which is threatened with extinction.

Undertake measures to promote biodiversity and protect endangered species Involvement in the peregrine falcon restoration project Environment Since 1999, the Company has been involved in efforts to restore the peregrine falcon population in Poland, in partnership with the ‘SOKÓŁ’ (‘FALCON’) Association. This predatory bird is listed in the Polish Red List of Threatened Species as a critically endangered species. By the end of 2020, falcons had already raised 51 chicks in a nest box on the site of the production plant in Płock. Interestingly, a female of saker falcon (Falco cherrug), an even rarer bird species, was seen in the peregrine falcon nest.

LOCAL COMMUNITIES Support the development of local communities Expanding the public bike sharing system in Płock Society, Environment and Employees PKN ORLEN fully financed and implemented a project to expand the public bike sharing system in Płock with 250 additional bicycles. ORLEN employees are among the project’s beneficiaries, as bicycle stations were also set up at the gates of the production plant.

Support the development of local communities ‘Inspiring Growth’ webinar Society A free webinar was held during which sociology and pedagogy experts discussed the findings of an earlier survey of development needs and inspirations of the youth in Płock and the Płock County. The survey covered more than 20 schools, with responses collected from nearly 1,300 students. The webinar was attended by around 50 to 100 representatives of the Płock educators.

Support the development of local communities Involvement in the activities of the Grant Fund for Płock Foundation Society In 2020, the Foundation’s activities focused on grant competitions. Support was given to initiatives aligned with the Sustainable Development Strategy for Płock and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The streetworking project was also continued.

Support the development of local communities Cooperation with local communities within the framework of the ‘ORLEN for Płock’ programme Society Thirty-four projects were implemented in 2020 under the ‘ORLEN for Płock’ programme, including organisation of a lifeguarded bathing spot on a lake near Płock and cruises on the Vistula (5,244 people took part in 213 cruises). The funds earmarked for the annual ‘Gardens of Light’ event in Płock were reallocated to Christmas packages for 3,677 senior Płock citizens.

Support the development of local communities Ongoing maintenance of the Free Information System for the inhabitants of the Płock region (ORLEN Info) Society and Employees The ORLEN Info system is used to communicate with the local community in Płock and its neighbouring areas. Due to the pandemic restrictions, the number of communications inviting to sports and cultural events dropped markedly. In 2020, 60 text messages were sent out to more than 1,000 system users.

Implement projects to reduce inequalities and support the development of local communities #SupportingPoland campaign Society, Customers and Business Partners Our #SupportingPoland campaign is intended to strengthen consumer attitudes and encourage Poles to make informed decisions when choosing between products made in Poland and elsewhere. In this way, PKN ORLEN supports the national economy and advocates the idea of modern economic patriotism.
Implement projects to reduce inequalities and support the development of local communities ‘My Place on Earth’ grant programme Society 2020 saw the third edition of the ‘My Place on Earth’ grant competition addressed to communities that want to change their surroundings. The programme had a record budget of PLN 3 million. Funding was awarded to 300 projects for the benefit of local communities.
Implement projects to reduce inequalities and support the development of local communities ‘We keep watch! We remember!’ grant programme Society As part of the ‘We keep watch! We remember!’ programme, local organisations receive funding to care for memorial sites in their communities. Applicants could apply for grants of up to PLN 7,000. The project budget was over PLN 205,000, and 33 initiatives received support.
Implement projects to reduce inequalities and support the development of local communities Scholarship programmes Society In 2020, 556 scholarships were awarded to children and youth from all over Poland under seven scholarship programmes. They include scholarships for pupils from Płock and its neighbouring areas, children of ORLEN Group companies’ employees, children from foster family group homes, descendants of repatriates studying in Poland, and Paralympic athletes.
Implement projects to reduce inequalities and support the development of local communities Support for foster family group homes Society Support for foster family group homes included winter holidays for the children, co-financing of summer holidays, co-financing of the purchase of electronic equipment for remote learning and work, a scholarship programme, and an annual ORLEN Christmas card competition. 

 

Inspiring responsibility Inspire a sense of responsibility through the Company's activities/involvement Promotion of activities for the benefit of local communities during the 8th CSR Fair Business Partners, Society and Customers During the 8th CSR Fair, PKN ORLEN’s representatives participated in a networking session to showcase PKN ORLEN’s community project for the local community in Płock called ‘The Environment – Naturally and Locally’. 
Inspire a sense of responsibility through the Company's activities/involvement Promotion of ORLEN’s social initiatives during nation-wide events Business Partners, Society and Customers ORLEN employees took part in the conference ‘Business for Agenda 2030 in Poland – Challenges and Solutions’. The event was intended to summarise the activities undertaken by the Polish government and businesses in 2020 to further the Sustainable Development Goals.

Employee volunteering projects Implement, support and promote employee volunteering initiatives Employee volunteering projects   In 2020, due to the pandemic, volunteering initiatives included fewer participants and the volunteers were equipped with personal protective equipment during the activities. Nevertheless, more than 1,000 employees engaged in 51 volunteering projects. In 2020, the ORLEN Foundation also came up with a new initiative for its employees called Volunteering Week.
